Wise Investment

Starting back when our boys were young, my wife Jen and I have tried to get away without the children each year. Every married couple needs to keep their marriage a priority.  Your children need to know that your marriage is important to you.  Your spouse needs to know that your marriage is important to you.  If you can’t get away, then send the kids away for a night or two.   I would also encourage married couples to find time each week for a date.  For Jen and I it is Tuesday’s.  That happens to be cheap ticket and popcorn night at the local movie theaters.  I’m learning to say NO to other things that I could be doing on Tuesdays so I can say YES to investing in my marriage.

For Jen and I, the beach is our favorite place to go for a get away.  We love to walk along the shore and look for treasures (sand dollars, shells, etc.).  On one particular morning we see a large something that has washed upon the shore.  At first we think it might be a shark or a person, but as we got closer we realized it was a TV, yes that is right a TV.  I decided to take a picture with my phone because I knew at sometime it would make a great illustration.

Seeing a TV on the shore of a beautiful beach reminds me of how often we are distracted by things of this world and miss the beauty the Lord has created for us.  In our spiritual life, marriages, families and relationships we often will become so consumed in our work, hobbies, TV, fantasy football, etc. that we neglect to invest in the more important things like faith, marriage, family and friends.  Jesus taught us about wise investment in Matthew 6: 19-20, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. “  We often are guilty of settling for less when God has so much more for us.  We settle for the good things instead of the great things.  Don’t be a settler and settle for less important things, but instead invest in the things that matter now and for eternity.

To those who have not become a follower of Jesus yet, let me encourage you not to become so distracted by the things of this world that you remain blind to the beauty of the Cross.  It was out of a love for you that Jesus went to the Cross and died.  Our sin (disobedience to God) separates us from God and condemns us to an eternal separation in Hell.  But Jesus took on Himself our wrath so we can be forgiven and accepted by God if by faith we would confess our sin, repent of our sin and confess Jesus is Lord and  follow Him.  Jesus decided to invest in us, let us decide to invest our life and eternity in Him! Faith in Jesus is the greatest investment you will ever make!

Life is a journey, learn on the way.  Till next time stay in the scripture.
