As I listen to people talk about how “All Lives Matter” and “Black Lives Matter” the Holy Spirit gently spoke to my heart and asked me “Does your life matter?”
The Holy Spirit always has a way about getting to the heart of the matter. The question He is asking leads to two conclusions. First, “Does my life matter to Jesus?” Whether you are black or white, whether you are here legally or illegally, whether you are rich or poor, whether you Democrat or Republican, whether you vote for Clinton or Trump, whether you are from the North or the South, whether you push a Ford or drive a Chevy, you matter to Jesus!
“There is no favoritism with God.” Romans 2:11 (HCSB)
Jesus came to save all who will repent of their sin and believe. It doesn’t matter who you are, you are loved by Jesus. He displayed that love on the cross. You matter to Jesus, so much that He gave His life for you.
“But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!” Romans 5:8 (HCSB)
Second, the Holy Spirit’s question leads me to consider, “does my life matter?” Am I living a life that matters? Is my life making a difference? Satan will tell you that your life doesn’t matter, that you aren’t making a difference. But Jesus would disagree, He says I created you because I love you and want to know you. Jesus says your life has a purpose and is making a difference and can make a difference.
Remember the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life?” George Bailey thinks everybody would be better off if he had never been born. Then Clarence the AS2 (Angel, Second Class) comes and shows George what life would be like if he had never existed. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is when Clarence says “Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?”
Don’t listen to the lies of Satan. Your life does matter, your life touches so many other lives, more then you realize. I’m reminded of the song “Thank You.” When you get to heaven, there will many people who will come up and say thank you. People that you never realized you had mattered in their life.
The ultimate purpose that we exist is to bring glory to Jesus. At the end of the game (Life) it doesn’t really matter what the world’s box score (stats) says, all that really matters is what Heaven’s box score has down for us.
I want to leave you with one last quote from “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Clarence says (in the book inscription), “Remember, George. No man is a failure who has friends.” I would add to Clarence’s words, no man is a failure who trusts in Jesus and lives for him!
Your life matters, to Jesus and to others!
Life is a journey, learn on the way! Till next time, stay in the Scripture!
