Don’t Mess with Mom

“Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.”  Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing.  But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.  Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.”  Proverbs 31:28-31

I can remember when I was around 16 years old, joking with my Mom, that I had grown too big for her to handle.  Before I knew it she had me pinned against the wall.  After we both had a good laugh, I remember thinking that I probably shouldn’t mess with Mom! Never forget that it is not “the size of the dog in the fight but size of the fight in the dog.”   “Don’t mess with the momma bear.”

God gives moms superhero powers.  They can see through walls with their x-ray vision, hear whispers with their sonar hearing, be in two places at once and do two things at once, know the question before we ask it and also the answer, and fix a meal that everyone will eat on a shoestring budget.  Moms are amazing! They are able to help build a science fair volcano the night before it is to be turned in with just items found around the house.  Moms have healing power also, a kiss from mom helps the boo-boo feel better.

My mom and my wife both are superheroes because they live a life that brings glory to Jesus.  They both pray for their families and both have been instrumental in leading their children to a saving faith in Jesus.  Both ladies are superheroes because they have stood faithfully by their husband and served alongside him as he serves the Lord and the Church.

Sacrifice is the word that comes to mind when I think of moms.  My mom and my wife both sacrifice for their family.  Putting others first is part of the mom pledge that is written in their heart when their baby is born.  Taking care of their family is a natural instinct given by God to moms.

Like superheroes, moms are often taken for granted.  If your mom is still alive, let her know that you think she is a superhero.  If you have children, let your wife know that you think she is a superhero.  Let them know how much you appreciate all they have done for you.  If your mom/wife has died, celebrate her life by becoming a superhero yourself.  Help someone today in her name, show love to someone in her honor.

One last thought for all the men, your wife/mom/daughter should know that you will protect her at all cost.  “Don’t mess with mom” should be your warning to all who would consider hurting the woman of your life.  As I have said at each church I have been called, “I don’t care if you talk about me, but if you talk about or hurt my wife or boys then I will lay hands on you and pray for you later!”  Don’t mess with mom!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the ladies who read this article.  You are the superheroes of our society.  Without you a house would not be a home.

Life is a journey, learn on the way! Till next time stay in the Scripture!

Pastor Jon, Thanks for this Mother’s Day message. It says a lot about you as well as your family. I am honored to be one of your followers at Ridgeview and having you, Jen, and the boys (young men) as friends. Sharron
